Planting
Tree and shrub distance from the fence
United States
No statutory boundary planting distance — figures are horticultural. Recommended (safe): tall trees ≥4 m, shrubs ≥1 m; also keep large trees away from the septic/foundation.
Distances and rules
Tall trees are planted farthest from the boundary, shrubs closest, so crown and roots do not shade or damage the neighbour’s plot or utilities.
Tall tree (recommended)
Recommended: at least 4 m (and ~6–15 m from septic/foundation)

Important limitation
This is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the local land-use rules, easements, the network/utility operator’s requirements and neighbour buildings.
