Sanitation
Outdoor toilet distance to well and house
United States
A fixed privy keeps ≥15 m (50 ft) to a well; portable 6 m (20 ft), cesspool 23 m (75 ft). Distance to the dwelling is local.
Distances and rules
An outdoor toilet or cesspit is placed well away from any drinking-water source so that seepage cannot reach a well or borehole, and at a distance from dwellings — your own and the neighbour’s — for sanitary reasons and to keep odour away.

Important limitation
This is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the local land-use rules, easements, the network/utility operator’s requirements and neighbour buildings.
