Composting area
Compost bin placement rules
Spain · Auxiliary · usually lightweight
A compost bin should be kept well away from drinking-water wells (the same sanitary logic as other contamination sources, around 20 m or more) and positioned so odour and runoff do not reach the neighbour's boundary.
Placement rules
Compost is useful but should not threaten drinking-water sources or neighbour comfort.
Sanitary zone
Sanitary protection distances to wells, drinking water and dwellings.
Compost distance
Distance to well / drinking water
Keep ~20 m or more from a water well (recommended)
Well-to-septic / contamination separation: at least ~20 m recommended (more if groundwater flows toward the well)
Odour / runoff to boundary
Place so odour and leachate stay off the neighbour's plot
Setbacks (retranqueos) to boundaries — no fixed national figure; set by municipal PGOU / ordinances, commonly ~3 m
Important limitation
The catalog is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the land plot category, local land-use and development rules, easements, utility protection zones and neighbour buildings.
