Outdoor toilet placement rules

Germany · Auxiliary · usually lightweight

An outdoor pit/dry toilet is governed by water law: keep a safe distance to the dwelling, the boundary and especially to any drinking-water well (the well must stay 50 m from any wastewater/seepage); at least 2 m to the boundary for installation parts.

Placement rules

A high-sensitivity sanitary object: place it only after checking wells, houses and local sanitation rules.

Boundary setback

Setbacks from plot boundaries and neighbouring buildings.

Distance to boundary At least 2 m for installation parts Plant treatment systems – legal provisions (DIN 4261 / DWA)

Sanitary zone

Sanitary protection distances to wells, drinking water and dwellings.

Outdoor toilet / cesspit distances

Important limitation

The catalog is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the land plot category, local land-use and development rules, easements, utility protection zones and neighbour buildings.
