Garden structure
Greenhouse placement rules and setbacks
Germany · Auxiliary · usually lightweight
A greenhouse follows the same setback logic: about 3 m to the boundary, but a small one without habitable rooms may stand on the boundary — in Baden-Württemberg if wall ≤3 m and wall area ≤25 m² (agricultural greenhouses must keep at least 1 m).
Placement rules
A light garden structure for growing plants. The main planning issues are boundary setback, shade and water runoff.
Setback to boundary
Typically about 3 m (depth = factor × wall height; factor varies by state)
Local rules
Greenhouse on the boundary (BW)
Wall ≤3 m, wall area ≤25 m²; agricultural greenhouses keep ≥1 m
Building Code of Baden-Württemberg (LBO BW), § 5 — setback areas
Other conditions
Runoff, shading and other local-code conditions.
Roof overhang / runoff
Overhangs up to 50 cm usually ignored in the setback; keep runoff on your plot
Local rules
Important limitation
The catalog is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the land plot category, local land-use and development rules, easements, utility protection zones and neighbour buildings.
