House setback from the fence and plot boundary

France

National default ≥3 m (or on the boundary) under R.111-19, but the local PLU usually overrides it.

Distances and rules

A dwelling must stand at least the setback distance from the neighbouring boundary; you may not build the house in the strip between that line and the boundary.

To neighbour boundary At least 3 m or on the boundary (RNU default; PLU may differ) France — Town Planning Code, Art. R.111-19 (default setback)

Important limitation

This is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the local land-use rules, easements, the network/utility operator’s requirements and neighbour buildings.
