Septic tank placement rules

France · Auxiliary · usually permanent

A septic tank or treatment unit must sit at least 5 m from any building, more than 3 m from the property boundary, about 3 m from trees, and at least 35 m from a well or water capture; the SPANC validates the design and siting.

Placement rules

One of the most important objects in a site plan: it affects the house, well, boundary and service access.

Boundary setback

Setbacks from plot boundaries and neighbouring buildings.

Distance to a building At least 5 m ANC (septic) implantation distances per NF DTU 64.1
Distance to boundary / trees More than 3 m from the boundary; about 3 m from trees ANC (septic) implantation distances per NF DTU 64.1

Sanitary zone

Sanitary protection distances to wells, drinking water and dwellings.

Septic tank distances

Important limitation

The catalog is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the land plot category, local land-use and development rules, easements, utility protection zones and neighbour buildings.
