Outbuilding
Garage placement rules on a plot
France · Auxiliary · usually permanent
A garage is a garden annexe: déclaration préalable from 5 to 20 m² and permis de construire above 20 m²; it may sit on the boundary or at least 3 m from it when the PLU sets no rule, with any extra constraints fixed by the local PLU.
Permit and notice
5–20 m² declaration; >20 m² building permit
Placement rules
A garage is usually treated as an outbuilding; the main planning issues are boundary setback and driveway access.
Placement on / off boundary

Important limitation
The catalog is a planning aid, not a legal opinion. Before construction, check the land plot category, local land-use and development rules, easements, utility protection zones and neighbour buildings.
